Arab International Cultural City
Project Background
The construction
of Arab International Cultural City was officially proposed when the Ningxia Islamic
Friendly Council for Promotion of International Economy and Culture (NXICPEC for
short) was setup in Dec. 2002. It aims to promote China, Arab countries and Islamic
countries to launch extensive, deep cultural exchanges, and promote the development
of several undertakings such as the travel, economy and trade through the cultural
exchanges. The friendship between China and Arab countries has developed into a
new historical stage, especially after the president Hu Jintao and the president
Mubarak set up the China-Arab Cooperation Forum in Egypt in 2004, and then the first
China and Arab countries cooperative forum and entrepreneur’s conference was held
in Beijing, 2005. The construction of the Cultural City is exactly the purport of
China-Arab Cooperation Forum, the friendship between China and Arab countries will
proceed with extensive and deep cultural exchanges, develop towards the fields such
as travel, education, science and technology, economy and trade and so on.
Project Purpose
The content of Arabic culture is rich and colorful, and its history is also long
enough. In order to fully reflect the friendship between China, Arab countries and
Islamic countries, there are two basic points on the content of planning need to
be mainly stressed. The first one is to make the world understand China and the
Moslem culture in China. We will mainly based on the cultural characteristics of
Moslem in China and make the world understand its origin, distribution, development
and current situation of Moslem in China, which fully reflect the respects of our
government to the equality of all nationalities and freedom of religion under the
leadership of the Communist Party of China. There are ten minorities wholly believes
the Islam among 56 minorities in China and they are Hui, Uygur, Kirgiz, Kazak, Tajik,
Uzbekistan, Taer, Dongxiang, Salar, Bonan with the population about 20 million,
and 10 million of Hui people are among them. They are mainly distributed in Ningxia,
Xinjiang, Gansu, Shaanxi, Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Fujian, Qianhai, Yunnan and other
places and they melt in the Chinese great family of nationalities with other ethni
minorities, getting along harmoniously and mutually developed with each other. The
second one is to make us to understand world Moslem culture. Aims to blend Chinese
culture and world culture and strengthen mutual understandings and promote mutual
friendships lastly and soundly.
Project Necessity
There are more than ten hundred million population in the world that believe in
Islam, and early in 1600, Emperor Ming ChengZu of the Ming Dynasty in China had
opened the maritime ways to the Arab countries and had a large circle of friends
and established the friendly relationship in trade and business with dozen of Arab
countries within 20 years. From them on, China was keeping good friendship and cooperation
with Arab countries and never stopped. Especially in recent years, the leaders and
various circles of society, both in China and Arab countries, have many friendly
exchanges and exchanging visits of the various circles of society have frequently
developed, and the cooperation of culture and economy are expanding constantly.
In 2004, Chinese president Hu Jintao had proposed to establish “China-Arab Cooperation
Forum” in person, and successfully held two forums in 2005 and 2006; the friendship
and cooperation between China and Arab has been promoted greatly and a good foundation
for more broad collaborate have been settled. Ningxia, with 2,030,000 Hui residents,
is the only Hui autonomous region in China.
They have keeping the traditional living habits and cultural habitudes and keeping
long-term friendly association with Arab countries and Islamic world for many years;
every year there are about 1,000 people to go on a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia from
Ningxia. The old “Silk Road” had connected China and Arab countries together more
than 2000 years ago, and Ningxia is one of the ways which must be passed on the
ancient “Silk Road”.
In order to inherit and develop the friendly tradition between China and Arab, the
“Ningxia Islamic Friendly Council for Promotion of International Economy and Culture”,
supported by government, has proposed a plan to establish the “Arab International
Cultural City”, which has received enthusiastic support from a lot of Arab countries
and national envoy in China of the Islam and some of them have visited in Ningxia,
such as Jordan, Pakistan, Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the sultanate of Oman, Syria,
Bahrain, Kuwait, Sudan, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, etc. Supported by autonomous
government, 5115 Mu (341 hectares) land was used to build this project. It is a
mighty constructive project which contains dozens of sub-projects, including the
Friendly Museum of China and Arab, Conference Centre, Comprehensive Building with
amusement, food and beverage, health care and fitness, School and Training Center,
Medical Research Center, Arab Commercial Street, Bazaar, Gate of Arab, Mosques and
many novel tour programs which favorite by various nationalities and some Landmark
buildings.
This “Cultural City” is not only belongs to Ningxia, China, but the world that Chinese
and Arab had made a fantastic contribution to the human civilization in navigation,
astronomy, medical science, law, literature and art, architectural art, science
and culture, as well as the important role in the building a harmonious world. At
present, this project is in course of preparing to establish. “The Moslem is brother
all over the world, we hope that all the brother in Arab countries and Islamic world
or district to join the investment and financing actively, take care about this
project, promote the construction of this project together and make it become our
common wealth.
