The seed for the Soletti brand was sown in Zach bakery in Feldbach, Styria, in 1949. Originally, one of the products they sold were pretzels made from thin “dough noodles”. They came up with the idea of baking these “dough noodles” in a straight form – and the salt sticks were born. The Zach family was on the look-out for a name which expressed a verbal diminution and had a Mediterranean sound to it, since the family enjoyed spending time in Italy. The grains of salt sprinkled on the salt sticks gave rise to the name “Saletti”. However, Ms Zach preferred “Soletti” since it reminded her of the sun in Italy – and so the product name was born! Originally, it was only these thin salt sticks which bore this name. Later on, the pretzels and other types of salty pastry were also sold under this name. Today, the Soletti brand is one of the best, most well-known brands in Austria. (Market-Monitoring 2008: position 6 amongst 800 brands in Austria).
