Otani pottery was originally made in the form of large urns in which Tokushima's well-known indigo dye was stored. These huge pots and water lily bowls are the most well known Otani pottery products, however these days a wide variety of goods are manufactured, from giant urns to small everyday goods such as teacups and bowls.
Despite being extremely thin, the works are also very durable. This is due to the delicate technique of turning the pottery on the wheel.
